KNOWLEDGE

Why does a projector need service?

Cooling system and image degradation

Projectors are devices that operate in extreme thermal conditions. The discharge lamp generates huge amounts of heat, which must be dissipated by a system of fans and filters. Over time, filters become clogged with dust, which leads to overheating of LCD matrices or the DLP color wheel.

Regular maintenance (Cleaning Service) is not just about blowing out the dust. It's a process of:

  • Dismantling the optimal path (light engine).
  • Cleaning polarizers in an ultrasonic bath.
  • Replacing thermal pastes on graphic processors.

Failure to service leads to permanent damage, such as burning out polarizers (yellow spots on the image) or damaging the DMD chip (white/black dots).

How does the repair process look?

Diagnostyka elektroniczna płyty głównej projektora

Stage 1: Free Diagnostics

Every device delivered to our service center at 4 Pola Karolińskie Street in Warsaw undergoes detailed testing. We check the lamp hour counter, system error logs, and the physical condition of the optics. Unlike the competition, we do not charge fees for checking the fault unless the client decides not to proceed with the repair.

Stage 2: Regeneration and Repair

After the cost estimate is accepted, we proceed to action. We specialize in component repairs (replacing specific integrated circuits, not entire expensive boards). We regenerate light tunnels and replace only the lamp burners (eco option), which saves up to 50% of costs compared to replacing entire modules.

Most common problems and questions (FAQ)

White or black dots on the image (Starry night effect)

This is a typical fault for DLP technology projectors (e.g., Optoma, BenQ, Acer). It indicates damage to the DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) chip. Micromirrors get stuck in the on (white dot) or off (black dot) position. The only effective solution is to replace the DMD chip with a new one. We have access to original spare parts.

Image discoloration (Yellow, purple, or pink spots)

This problem mainly applies to LCD projectors (Epson, Panasonic, Sony). The cause is burned out polarizers or degradation of LCD panels due to overheating and dust deposition. We offer replacement of polarizing filters and regeneration of prisms (Light Engine), which restores perfect white and correct color reproduction without having to replace the entire device.

The projector is loud, buzzing or making strange noises

Excessive noise usually has two causes. The first is worn bearings of cooling fans (the solution is to replace them with brand new fans). The second, in DLP projectors, is damage to the Color Wheel bearing, which manifests itself in a high, squeaky sound. We effectively repair both faults, restoring the operational smoothness of the device.

Projector turns off after a while (LAMP/TEMP LED)

A flashing TEMP LED usually means a fan failure, a damaged temperature sensor, or clogged air filters (maintenance is necessary). If the LAMP LED is on, it may mean the end of the lamp life or damage to the lamp power supply circuit (Ballast). We perform precise voltage measurements to diagnose whether the culprit is the lamp or control electronics.

Projector shines, but there is no image ("No Signal" message)

If the lamp shines but the projector does not detect a signal source, the problem usually lies in the electronics. The most common causes are: broken HDMI/VGA socket, damaged image processor (Scaler) on the motherboard, or cold solders. We repair electronics at the component level (BGA/SMD), which is cheaper than replacing the entire board.

Is it worth replacing just the bulb or the entire lamp module?

We strongly recommend lamp regeneration, i.e., replacing only the burner in the original module. We install branded burners (Osram, Philips, Ushio), which guarantees brightness and lifespan identical to a new lamp, but at a much lower cost (even up to 50%). Cheap replacements from China often have low brightness and can damage the power supply (Ballast).

Is repairing an old projector profitable?

In 90% of cases, yes. Older, branded business and home theater projectors (e.g., Epson, Sony, Panasonic) often have better optics and more durable components than cheap, new LED projectors available in supermarkets. Thanks to our free diagnostics, you will know the exact cost of repair before making a decision - there is no risk.
